Beware Of Assumptions
We all know the gay stereotypes because the media suggests them to us at every turn. Of course these have penetrated into our own culture, not to mention our porn which would have the idea that everyone can be strictly divided up into type. One might find one’s self thinking that all skinny effeminate men are obviously twinks, eager bottoms ready to bend over and take it up the ass. Likewise, a strong looking man or a man with a huge cock must obviously be a top ready to give it to anything that moves. Sadly these assumptions often mess us up, unintentionally insulting others, or keeping us from erotic connections we might otherwise enjoy.
There’s no doubt about it, gays come in all shapes and sizes with an infinite range of queer desires. There’s that old cliche that to assume makes an ass out of u and me, but mostly it just keeps us from getting to tap hot ass we might otherwise enjoy. What do we do about this? The only answer of course is communication. Sometimes on the Internet or in well meaning advice from friends we are told that certain behaviors, certain appearances, or types of fashion mean we must be one thing or another. Only bottoms wear tight t-shirts for example we might be told, as if all men seeking men behave in exactly the same way.
If one meets someone who makes these assumptions about you or insists that one should be a certain way despite one’s preferences, don’t be afraid to set them straight. Maybe this will open up their minds. And hopefully it will keep one’s own mind open the next time one meets that hot skinny boy, because maybe he’s the one who wants to be on top rather then underneath, and maybe one would feel like bending over one’s bottom for him!
